Professional InterventionistAnswer: Most interventions do not require a doctor; however, if it’s a dual diagnosis patient (someone with a drug addiction and a psychiatric diagnosis) and the family would feel more secure with a Psychiatrist or Addiction Medicine Specialist present, this can be arranged. Although MD’s are not typically present during an intervention, our interventionists often coordinate with physicians when evaluating a patient and looking for a treatment referral.
